The world has experienced decades of rapid change and increased mobility. For travel, this has meant visiting places more frequently with little notice, and shorter stays. In return, we were “rewarded” with ever-decreasing prices. We became “bargain hunters” and “milestone collectors.” However, we now realise, this trend has not done any good to us or the environment. Much has been lost, particularly the true essence of travel – the spiritual experience.
In recent years alternative concepts like Slow Food, Slow Living, Green Lifestyle, and Sustainable & Slow Traveling have gained traction. At Travel Sense, we wholeheartedly embrace these ideas – here are some tips for exploring the world as a Mindful traveller:
- Plan your vacation ahead of time and, if possible, opt for a longer stay.
- Consider your mode of travel. Are there alternatives to a cheap flight or driving?
- Learn about the country and its culture. Gather as much information as you can about your destination to understand its customs.
- Pick up a few phrases in the local language. This shows respect and helps you connect more easily with the world you wish to explore.
- Savour the anticipation and the images that come to mind. Spiritually, your journey has already begun.
- Engage with the locals. To truly understand a destination, you need to know the people who live there.
- Focus on collecting experiences rather than souvenirs. Allow yourself to absorb the moments; not everything needs to be captured in a photo. Live in the present!
- Stay open to new experiences and practice tolerance. Try something you’ve never done before and let yourself go with the flow.
- Disconnect from your phone and take time for meaningful conversations with your travel companion and the people you meet. Aim to be as present as possible!
- Choose accommodations not just for their Instagram appeal. Select a place that reflects the culture and lifestyle of the country, one that offers authentic experiences to take back home with you.
Let yourself be inspired! Escape the chaos, find your balance, and discover spaces for holistic well-being at our Lifestyle hotel partners.
